The House & Its Designers

Chloé

Paris · 1952

A freer wardrobe, with bags that balance softness and hardware.

Gaby Aghion founded Chloé to offer an alternative to the formality of couture. The house’s ready-to-wear history runs through fluid clothes, romantic details and leather bags designed to be carried every day.

01 / The house

The story behind the name.

1952

Gaby Aghion’s idea

Aghion developed luxurious ready-to-wear with an easier spirit. Early presentations in Paris cafés placed the clothes close to the cultural life of the Left Bank.

1960s–2000s

Different versions of ease

Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo each reshaped Chloé. Under Philo, the padlocked Paddington became a defining bag of the 2000s.

2023 onward

A return to the archive

Chemena Kamali’s appointment in 2023 and debut in 2024 renewed attention to the house’s fluid silhouettes and 1970s references.
