Chanel Classic Flap: Which Size Should You Buy?
There are six common Classic Flap sizes and most boutique staff won't talk you through them. Here's the practical guide.

Chanel doesn't market the Classic Flap by 'size' — it markets it by the lambskin or caviar finish and lets the consumer figure out the dimensions. There are, in practice, six sizes you'll encounter at retail or on the secondary market. Here's what each one actually does.
Mini Square (17cm)
Cross-body or wristlet only. Fits a phone, lipstick, card holder. Bought primarily as a 'second' Chanel — most people own a medium first.
Mini Rectangle (20cm)
The current it-bag of the Classic Flap lineup. Fits a phone, a small wallet, keys, sunglasses in a soft case. The most-photographed Classic Flap on social media in 2025–2026.
Small / Mini Flap (23cm)
The 'mini' you'll see in older Chanel catalogues. Still produced. Fits everything the Mini Rectangle does, with breathing room.
Medium (25cm)
The default. If someone says 'Classic Flap' without specifying, they probably mean the medium. Fits a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, lipstick — daily-bag territory.
Large / Jumbo (30cm)
Day-to-evening crossover. Holds a small tablet. Significantly heavier on the shoulder than the medium because of the chain weight at scale.
Maxi (33cm)
The largest standard Classic Flap. Workbag-coded. Production is intermittent so availability is unreliable; the secondary market is where you'll find one.
"The Medium is the safe answer. The Mini Rectangle is the right answer if you carry a phone, not a wallet."
What about Affinity? Coco Handle? Boy?
Those are different model lines that share the quilted-leather DNA. The Affinity is a softer Flap with a top handle; the Coco Handle is a structured top-handle Flap; the Boy is a chunkier, more masculine flap with a chain-and-leather strap. All sit alongside the Classic Flap rather than replacing it.

Verified 2026 US retail: Classic Flap Medium $11,500. Classic Flap Mini Rectangle $7,500. Boy Chanel New Medium $7,800. Prices change at every spring/fall season — the secondary market often runs $1,000–$2,000 above retail for the most-wanted sizes.
